What a lesson looks like
Every lesson is tailored to you, so no two lessons are ever exactly the same. However, most lessons follow a similar structure to help you make steady, enjoyable progress.

Each lesson is different because every day is different for a living instrument. Some lessons are full of singing, while others might focus more on understanding your voice, preparing for an audition or overcoming a particular challenge. My job is to meet you where you are and help you move forwards from there.
CHECK IN
We'll start by chatting about how things have been since your last lesson. What's gone well? What's been challenging? Have you been practising? Is there anything you'd like to focus on today?
WARM UP
We'll prepare your voice with exercises chosen specifically for you, carefully selected to develop healthy vocal technique, coordination and awareness. Eventually you will learn to warm yourself up before each lesson, allowing us to move straight into vocal exploration.
EXPLORE
This is where most of the learning happens.
We might work on:
-
vocal technique
-
breathing and coordination
-
range and flexibility
-
resonance
-
confidence
-
performance skills
-
musicianship
-
vocal health
Exactly what we cover depends on your goals and where you are in your journey.
APPLICATION
Technique only becomes useful when you can use it in context. We'll work on songs you enjoy, using them to put new skills into practice and help you become a more confident, expressive singer. We may choose a different song each week or work on the same one for a while as a project. This all comes down to your learning preference and style.
PLAN
Before the end of the session, we'll recap what we've covered and decide what to focus on before your next lesson. I always aim to make sure you leave knowing exactly what to work on, whether that's a particular exercise, a section of a song or simply listening to something in a different way.
Frequently Asked Questions
I've never had singing lessons before. Is that okay?
Absolutely! Many of my students come to me as complete beginners. Lessons are tailored to your experience, so we'll start wherever you're comfortable and build from there.
I'm nervous about singing in front of someone.
That's completely normal. In fact, it's probably the most common thing new students tell me.
My aim is to create a relaxed, supportive environment where you can experiment, make mistakes and learn without judgement.
Do I need to be able to read music?
Not at all. While reading music can be helpful for some people, it's by no means essential. I teach students with a wide range of musical backgrounds.
What styles of singing do you teach?
I primarily teach Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM), including pop, musical theatre, soul, rock, folk and jazz and have experience teaching Classical technique. However, the techniques we develop are transferable across many styles, and lessons are always tailored to your goals.

If you have a specific request, please do not hesitate to get in touch to see if I am able to cater to your needs.
What ages do you teach?
Whilst I welcome and enjoy teaching students of all ages, my teaching is primarily focused on teenagers and adults. I do teach younger singers where appropriate and am always happy to chat about whether my lessons would be a good fit.
Where do lessons take place?
At the moment, I don't have a dedicated teaching studio for students to come to.
Lessons are available:
-
Online via Zoom
-
As home visits (subject to location and availability)
If you're unsure which option would work best for you, I'm always happy to discuss it during your Discovery Call.
Are online lessons as effective as face-to-face?
Yes! Online lessons have become a normal part of vocal coaching and they are how much coaching business began. With a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and a quiet space, you'll receive the same personalised coaching and exercises as you would in person. And I will always guide you through the technical details, to ensure that our lessons are of the highest quality possible.

Of course, it is all down to preference, so if you'd prefer face-to-face lessons, home visits may also be available depending on your location and my availability.
How often should I have lessons?
For most students, weekly lessons provide the best balance of consistency and progress, although any form of consistency is the key to seeing progress quickly.
However, I offer flexibility to suit your availability and offer the option to book lessons as and when.
What if I'm not sure which lesson option is right for me?
That's exactly what the Discovery Call is for! We'll chat about your goals, availability and learning preferences, and I'll recommend the option that I think will suit you best.
Where can I find your cancellation policy and other terms?
All bookings are subject to my Terms & Conditions, you'll be asked to agree to when booking.

Students joining a Regular Student Package will also receive my Student Guide & Agreement, which explains how termly lessons, scheduling and ongoing tuition work.
